I started shooting film about 2 and a half years ago after being introduced to photography by my friend Joe (@jsphsttn). Since then I’ve carried a point and shoot with me everywhere. It just so happened I went to a lot of football matches, following Preston North End across the country and to various non-league games. Soon it became the main focus of my photography and I created a separate Instagram account for these images : @cwhitleyshoots.

After a season of doing this casually I was contacted by the FA in England with an opportunity to shoot games in their competitions namely the FA Cup, FA Youth Cup, FA Women’s Cup and FA Women’s Championship. Along with photographing these games I was given the chance to write match reports to compliment my photos.

After graduating from University with a Politics degree and no career plans the timing of the opportunity afforded to me by the FA was perfect. It inspired something in me and I’m now studying for my Masters in Sports Journalism from the University of Salford.

In my career as a football journalist I will always have a film camera with me hoping to capture special moments as I write about them.
